Students build and program a robot can explore the deck of a sunken pirate ship in a simulated underwater experience. The ship has rolled on its side on the sea bottom. See if your robot can move on the angled terrain and find the treasure onboard.
Students should create their robots and program them in advance
William Kidd's pirate ship has recently been discovered lying on the seafloor off the East coast of Africa, in dangerous waters. Students need to devise a way of raising the ship by adjusting the buoyancy of a cartesian diver, using materials provided by ZFS.
Students do not need to prepare in advance
Students make a model sailboat using materials provided by ZFS that can cross the pool only using wind power, from a leafblower. Design your sails and learn the physics of sailing.
Students do not need to prepare in advance
For this icebreaker activity, students will need to work together in teams to decipher the messages in the pirate's diary and read the map to uncover the pirate's long lost treasure
Students do not need to prepare in advance
Create an image or dynamic animation of a pirate ship getting destroyed (by weather, monsters, other pirates, etc.) using mathematical equations on the DESMOS online graphing calculator
Students should complete and submit their creations one week prior (23 Oct) to the event, or earlier
